As a white person who has been seriously poor (like, 50+ hour work weeks making far less than minimum wage poor), I can still acknowledge that there is definitely white privilege in the US, and that it's much easier to move up the economic ladder so to speak, even as a female.

I guess there's always the truly legitimate concern that affirmative action will let PoC take over our universities. We really need more generic vaguely european college students with mommy and daddy paying their tuition because, you know, this country isn't already saturated with worthless business and communications majors.

I know the story and still side with him; I don't believe that the death penalty is ever appropriate and I don't believe in arbitrarily assigning more value to one person's life than another, despite their histories. Criminals are the product of living in a fucked up system, and it's really easy to demonize them when you'll never know true desperation yourself.

The thing that initially came to my mind as I read this was the 14-year-old shot by a police officer in Cabrini Green a couple years back, for having a BB gun. Yeah, race doesn't play into it at all. You're right.

Beyond all that, a good speech is a good speech regardless of the source.

Also, a lot of this shit is creepy. I don't want random male friends to tell me how cute/sexy/whatever I am. It's unwanted attention and it usually reeks of desperation, unless it's reciprocated, which it seldom ever is.

Seriously dudes, I can tell you right now that I love guys who are genuinely nice, but having a backbone is seriously attractive -- I mean, y'all are saying that you're nice because you don't manipulate us, basically. Why would you want to date someone who is willing to manipulate you? That doesn't make you nice; it makes you pathetic.
